Miami, FL – On September 14, 2023. The Dominican Film Showcase, in collaboration with Miami Dade College, will hold the Seventh Annual Edition of Dominican Cinema in Florida on Thursday, September 14, 2023, starting at 6:00 PM at the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College. The purpose of this event is to promote Dominican culture through cinema. The film selected for this edition is Rango de Honor, which tells the story of an honest law enforcement officer who decides to confront drug traffickers in his country.
The event will be attended by Dr. Leonel Fernández, President of the institution, along with members of the Council of the Global Film Festival of Santo Domingo. In addition to the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring Mr. José Monegro, screenwriter and producer of the film, Omar de la Cruz, Executive Director of the Global Film Festival of Santo Domingo, and José Záiter, Executive Director of GFDD Florida.
The Dominican Film Showcase of Florida was established in 2015 in collaboration with Latinos Unidos, a prestigious local non-profit organization led by Dominican Dr. Amada Vargas. The event is being coordinated by Soulangel Santana, Deputy Executive Director of the institution.
Former President Dr. Leonel Fernández has always been a strong advocate for the development of the Dominican film industry. During his administration, the Law for the Promotion of Cinematic Activity in the Dominican Republic was enacted.
According to Záiter, “There is much excitement about this year’s Showcase because it features a film that has been very successful in the Dominican Republic.”
